As the morning mist cleared and the sun rose on Thursday, August 3, 2017, A.K. Sheffield went to his heavenly home.

Atwood Kyle was born in Colorado City, Texas at the Colorado Sanitarium (as the hospital was called then). He was raised in Stanton, Texas until 1938, when his parents moved to the township of Loraine where he attended school for a year. In 1939 they moved west of Loraine and he attended school in Colorado City. He later attended and graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy.

A.K. farmed until enlisting in the Navy in 1943. When WWII ended he returned to Loraine where he was a life-long farmer.

In 1953 he married Billie Marie Chaffin of Sweetwater and they moved south of Loraine where they resided for 63+ years. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Loraine where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. He also served on the FHA Board, Loraine Co-op Gin Board and was a member of the Lion's Club.

A.K. was preceded in death by his parents J.D. and Alma L. Sheffield. He is survived by his wife of 63+ years, Billie Sheffield; three children Jessie David and wife, Janice of Gatesville, Texas; Mildred Kelley of Carrollton, Texas; and Belinda Hailey and husband, Tom of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren Ryan Kelley of Dallas, Texas, Shane Kelley of Bentonville, Arkansas, Caitlin Kelley of Carrollton, Texas and Lamar Berkley Hailey III of San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his cousin Jerry Hill, wife Yang and their family of Magnolia, Texas.

The family will be present for visitation on Sunday, August 6th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Kiker Seale Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Colorado City Cemetery on Monday, August 7th at 10:30 AM.
